Utilizing the latest in 3D CAD software, we are able to bring your project to life. We have been involved in over 800 projects since beginning operations in 2010. With over 40 years of combined experience in the building industry including Commercial Construction, Engineered Wood Product Design, and Project Management, we have the knowledge and expertise you want and need for your project.

West Lane Designs has developed a unique two-phase approach. The Preliminary Design Phase establishes a working computer model of your project. The Construction Drawing Phase adds the details and information necessary to get building permits and complete construction

About the Owner
Mike MacKenzie CET
Like most in the industry, my passion for structures started at a young age. I loved building houses with Lego, sketching floor plans and elevations on paper, and I loved anything to do with solving puzzles. I feel like I am still doing that today when I am designing new homes and additions. Only now, I've traded in the Lego for design software, and puzzles for people's housing issues. I love everything about my job: visiting houses (old and new), meeting new people and learning about how they use their homes, reworking a floor plan within an existing space, creating additions that work seamlessly with existing structures, and developing completely new homes from scratch.
I graduated with honors from the Structural Engineering Technology program at Red River College in 2004 and began my career designing roof trusses and floor joists for a local manufacturer. The knowledge gained from that experience has greatly aided in my ability to develop designs that are structurally efficient. A structurally efficient design can save time and money with little to no visible aesthetic impact.
I started West Lane Designs in early 2010. Since then, I have been involved in the design and/or consultation of over 1,000 projects of all sizes and complexities, from a simple wall removal for someone looking for an open-concept living space to grand multi-storey new homes. I value the longstanding relationships I have established with several New Home Builders and Renovation Contractors. I also enjoy the personal connection of working directly with clients that are taking a more DIY approach.
